The Anthony M. Fernicola Foundation has dedicated many years to supporting other Veterans charities as well as his own.  Some of those charities include The Paralyzed Veterans of America, which helps restore the lives of veterans who are paralyzed by spinal cord injury or disease. Our contributions have enabled these deserving veterans the support and services they need to become independent members of society again. Whether it be the donations to the Calendar Campaign or just recurring donations, many veterans’ lives have been impacted by this organization.

Our foundation has also supported Soldiers Angels, whose mission is supporting veterans who are deployed, in hospitals or homeless, wounded; and their families.  They have many service projects and one in particular that we supported was the Adopt-A-Family program. Through this program we were able to adopt three families for the Christmas Holiday season.  Each family had a parent who was a vet and was struggling with disability, or financial hardship and needed a hand up.

Through them, we were able to speak to the family and provide Christmas gifts for the children and some assistance for the parent.  It was a very gratifying experience. In several incidences we were able to connect with our families by hosting a pizza party for one family and holding a pre- holiday party for another. Actually, meeting the children and family we were aiding made this occurrence so special.

Mr. Fernicola was also honored on numerous occasions for his service to our country. He also received several accolades and recognition for his term of service from groups of schoolchildren and fellow servicemen during Veterans Day Commemoration activities. It is vitally important that young children grow up with an understanding of, and respect for, the sacrifices that veterans make to protect them, our country, and the citizens of the world.

In addition to this organization, the foundation supports the Wounded Warrior Project, whose mission is to assist vets and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound while serving in the military. Many of our vets are afflicted with wounds that don’t show. PTSD is a very debilitating factor that prevents some vets with achieving the quality of life they are so deserving of.  This organization deals with the mental hurts as well as the physical ones. Our support is vital to their ongoing efforts.

The AMF Foundation has supported Veterans with disabilities who were injured in Iraq/Afghanistan and lost limbs and are suffering from PTSD. One particular vet lost his leg in Iraq and has been dealing with all the difficulties surrounding the rehabilitation and subsequent fittings of his artificial limb and everything that entails.

Through the Girl Scouts of America, we have helped supply care packages for the deployed troops. Even things as small as snack foods and toiletries are very much in demand and appreciated by the deployed vets.  We continue to strive to reach out to our veterans who are in need and our goal is to lend assistance to those who meet the criteria whenever feasible.

Troopers Assisting Troops

AMF Foundation attended an event recently hosted by the New Jersey State Troopers and their foundation, Troopers Assisting Troopers, for the Wounded Warrior Project. TAT is a grass roots non-profit group of retired and active NJ State Troopers who provide support to returning Wounded Warriors from Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

TAT sponsors a program called K9S for Warriors that provides service dogs for veterans suffering from PTSD, or traumatic brain injuries (TBI). K9S for Warriors is a non-profit organization dedicated to training and giving service canines to assist warriors efforts to return to civilian life with dignity and independence.

The success of this program relies on corporate sponsors, individual donations and volunteers. The service animals are mostly rescue dogs specially trained to help mitigate many types of disabilities including neurological, psychological, and mobility needs.

Anthony Fernicola who heads AMF Foundation considers this to be such a worthwhile and valuable program, that he donated to help sponsor a K9 for a deserving Warrior. This donation will ensure veterinary care, equipment and training material.

It was an honor meeting the Troopers and being a guest at their BBQ Event. Getting to see the K9S in person and learning about the program in detail was very enlightening and prompted us to want to participate in this great program.

WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT BBQ

AMF Foundation had the distinct honor to be invited to a BBQ Event hosted by the New Jersey State Troopers in support of The Wounded Warrior Project on September 19, 2019.  This wonderful organization is committed to helping veterans and future generations of injured service members get the attention, care and support they deserve.

It was a wonderful event and we had the honor of meeting with veterans from all branches of service and as far back as World War 2!  We learned that WWP offers free mental and physical health and wellness programs, career and benefits counseling, and encourages mentoring while including families and caregivers to ensure they all have a network of support.

We at AMF Foundation were very impressed by the level of success and commitment on display at this event.  Anthony decided to sponsor a Gym Membership for a warrior and a Community Outreach Event for a group of very deserving veterans.

The troopers provided a sumptuous buffet to please every palette.  There was live music and we even got to ride in an Army Jeep. Just being able to connect with the event organizers and the Wounded Warrior Personnel as well as the warriors themselves was invaluable.  We look forward to partnering with WWP again.
